Isn’t she pretty? I bought a new loved one into my family yesterday. It is a Honda Nighthawk 750 and you all should be very jealous of her. I drove all day yesterday near the lovely town of Fayetteville, Arkansas. A short test drive and I was in love. We strapped her to the trailer and drove off into the sunset. There really wasn’t a sunset because it was all rainy and whatnot but just know that was the feeling in my heart.
That last picture isn’t of my actual bike, but it’s bigger and shows off my girl’s awesome curves.
In other news I got a new hat yesterday at Blu. I saw it, I took it. I am now the proud owner of a University of California Santa Cruz Banana Slugs hat. I know that no one likes California athletics but you have to give it up to the Banana Slugs. Their mascot alone could strike fear into whatever it is that detritivores eat. Found mostly on North American Pacific coastal coniferous rainforest belt these yellow terrors are in perfect striking distance of some of our greatest cities! It is also know that they have a fondness for mushrooms. Take that!
Yesterday I came home to a package waiting on my doorstep. I have been waiting for this since May of last year. I am proud to say that I am the owner of the First 4 Figures Varia Suit Samus number 124 out of 2500. She’s wonderful. The piece probably weighs 5 pounds and the colors are about as vivid as it gets. If anyone comes near my house you will be subjected to a showing off of her awesomeness. Them’s the rules.
I need to find a good place to put her in the house, but for now she will keep the living room free from rogue Metroids and Space Pirates. I am currently on the fence about getting her a gunship to fly around in so we’ll have to see where that goes. The next thing I’m looking forward to is pitting Samus against the Cloverfield Monster toy that Jake ordered. We all know that guy isn’t just some chump. Samus could be in for the fight of her life!
DoctorM64 is a sound technician living in Buenos Aires. He has found time over the last few years to create a remake of this great game. It is heavily influenced by Metroid: Zero Mission applying those great advanced backwards on a fantastic and important part of the Metroid timeline. The tech demo can be found here and I encourage everyone to play it, even at work. He is also posting about the development of the title on his game blog. Yeah, it’s amazing. I’m still surprised you guys didn’t tell me about it though.
This reminds me of another great remake project. The late great Chrono Trigger: Resurrection. Thanks for reminding me of the sadness I felt when this project died Derek. It felt good to reminisce. Here is a link to a video of Chrono Trigger: Resurrection.
This is quite possibly the saddest and most frightening thing I have ever seen ever. If you guys need me I’ll be out back drowing myself in a birdbath.
The new Black Mages album came out yesterday! It’s called “III Darkness and Starlight“. If you haven’t heard The Black Mages before give this a listen. That is, of course, the Black Mages version of J-E-N-O-V-A from Final Fantasy VII. The Black Mages are a Final Fantasy cover band created by the man who made the music in the first place, Nobuo Uematsu. If you would like to listen to more of this stuff just shoot me an email.
The authors of Everyday Mathematics do not believe it is worth students’ time and effort to fully develop highly efficient paper-and-pencil algorithms for all possible whole-number, fraction and decimal division problems. Mastery of the intricacies of such algorithms is a huge endeavor, one that experience tells us is doomed to failure for many students. It is simply counter-productive to invest many hours of precious class time on such algorithms. The mathematical payoff is not worth the cost, particulary because quotients can be found quickly and accurately with a calculator.

Admittedly, I use one of these methods for quick mental math but some of these are shocking. The “guess until you get close” method of division probably doesn’t work too well when you’re dividing numbers larger than 3 digits.
